Three healthy slow-cooker recipes

Slow cooker baked apples


6 medium to large green apples

¼ cup raisins

¼ cup honey

1 teaspoon cinnamon

6 tablespoon coconut oil, butter or ghee


Begin by coring the apples.

Place the apples in a crock pot and add ½ inch of water. Add the raisins, honey, cinnamon, and coconut oil over the apples. Cook them on low through the night and enjoy a delicious hot meal in the morning.

You can top it with cream, yogurt, coconut milk, or eat it plain.


Crockpot breakfast burrito


1 15oz can black beans

1 10oz can diced tomatoes with green chilies

1 cup uncooked pearl barley

2 cups vegetable broth

¾ cups frozen corn

¼ cup chopped green onion

1 tablespoon lime juice

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon chili powder

½ teaspoon ground red pepper

3 garlic cloves


Mixing the ingredients together; this makes the filling. Heat it up in the crock pot for 4-5 hours on low.

Once it’s done cooking, scramble up as many eggs as you want. Place some filling on a tortilla along with some of the scrambled eggs. Roll it up and serve.

You can garnish your burrito with whatever you fancy, such as shredded cheese, salsa, or guacamole.


Apple cinnamon breakfast risotto


¼ cup of butter

3 small apples

1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon cloves

¼ teaspoon kosher salt

1 ½ cups Arborio rice

1/3 cup brown sugar

4 cups of liquid (milk or water)

Place the butter into your crock pot on high and add the rice to the butter. Be sure to stir it thoroughly.

Add the apples and spices, and then stir in the milk or water. Cover and cook on high for 3-5 hours.
